Give your smile a life with Porcelain Veneers
At smile2o, in Wokingham, Berkshire, we provide Porcelain Veneers to help you reshape and enhance the appearance of your smile. To find out more information about Porcelain Veneers, please read the top four most commonly asked questions we receive from our patients.
1. What is a Porcelain Veneer?
A Porcelain Veneer can be compared to a false fingernail for your tooth. Veneers are thin but hard, tooth coloured porcelain shells that are custom made to bond to the front surface of your teeth. They may be used to improve the aesthetic appearance of your smile or provide additional support to underlying tooth structure. Like Dental Crowns, Porcelain Veneers can be long lasting restorations and can dramatically enhance your smile.
2. What is the main difference between Crowns and Veneers?
The main difference between Crowns and Veneers are their shape. Crowns completely cover all surfaces of the tooth, and Veneers are placed only on the outside front surface of the tooth. Veneers are a more conservative alternative to Crowns.
3. What are the main benefits of Veneers?
Porcelain Veneers offer many benefits to patients, including:
- Improve colour of teeth
- Close spaces between teeth
- Enhance shape of teeth
- Amend the length or size of teeth
- Realign crooked teeth
- Maintain your natural tooth structure
- Will not stain teeth from coffee or tea
- Custom colour shading is available
4. How are Veneers placed? What happens on the day of treatment?
During your appointment, the tooth is prepared by removing a small amount of the enamel from the front of the tooth (usually 0.3 - 0.5 mm). An impression of the tooth is made which is sent to a laboratory that will construct the veneer. During your next appointment, we will fit the veneer. If it meets the dentist's and patient's approval, then the Veneer is bonded to the tooth, trimmed, and polished. It can take a few hours to shape and bond the Veneer, but typically the result is very aesthetically pleasing.
